MOUNTAIN EXPLORING

 
Mountain Biking
Feel the challenge and exhilaration of mountain biking on the 3 1/2 mile trail which winds around our beautiful 1,200 acre mountain. This intermediate trail is great for teens and adults ready for an invigorating challenge. Mountain bikes, helmets, water and maps are provided for the ride. Mountain biking on Blue Ridge trails is only permissible with our guides. 2 hour session, minimum 6/ maximum 12, middle school through adult. $15/person.
 
Archery
Whether you are Robin Hood or Legolas, archery is fun for everyone! We have a course in the woods as well as an open field range. 1 1/2 hour session, minimum 6 maximum 12 per range, ages 4 years through adult. $10/person.
 
Mountain Stream Discovery
Sift through mountain streams to explore the diversity of critters, aquatic ecosystems and water quality. This is a hands-on, get-wet investigation of a mountain stream. 1 1/2 hours, minimum 6, ages 4 years through adult. $10/person.
 
Predator-Prey
Participate in an ecological simulation game demonstrating predator-prey relationships, survival and the food web through a strtegic game of tag in the woods. Action packed and lots of fun! 1 1/2 hours, minimum 15, ages 9 through adult. $10/person.
 
High Windy or Mt. Mitchell Overlook Interpretive Hike
The High Windy hike is a real mountain experience, an intensive three-mile to the summit of our mountain; or set your sights on the Mt. Mitchell Overlook. Set your goal based upon time available, group ability and interest levels. Water and maps are provided. 3 to 4 hours, minimum 6, ages 4 through adult. $15/person.
 
Nature Discovery Hike
Experience Blue Ridge's hardwood cove forest with its diversity of plants and wildlife. Guided hikes on one of many trails include identifying Appalachian trees, flowers, edible plants and other interesting facts and sensory experiences. 1 1/2 hours, minimum 6, ages 4 through adult. $10/person.
 
Night Awareness Hike
Experience the dark forest, learn about nocturnal animals and night vision. Enjoy fun experiments with different light. 1 1/2 hours, minimum 6, ages 4 throught adult. $10/person.
 
Map and Compass
Learn to identify magnetic north, true north, reading and using a compass. Use these skills to design a treasure hunt based on bearing and distance. 1 1/2 hours, minimum 6, ages 9 through adult. $10/person.
 
Lost in the Woods
This simulation game develops basic compass and orienteering skills, involves creative problem solving, wilderness survival, group decision-making and leadership skills. 2 hours, minimum 6, ages 9 through adult. $15/person.
 
Burma Bridge
Team members construct a primitive suspension bridge using ropes while learning bridge dynamics and designs, stress distribution and the natural strength of a triangle. 1 1/2 hours, minimum 6, ages 9 through adult. $10/person.
