Support Staff


General Function
The incumbent is deployed to housekeeping and food service/dining room. The incumbent may also work in other departments as needed throughout the contracted employment period. The incumbent will report to the director of the department to which he/she is assigned.

Qualifications
It is preferred that the incumbent will have completed at least one year of college and has had experience as a paid or volunteer worker. The incumbent should have strong communication and customer service skills, quality work habits and the desire to work in the service industry. Preference will be given to those applicants who hold a current CPR and/or First Aid certification.

Job Requirement
The incumbent is assigned to housekeeping or food service/dining room. The designated department will be his/her primary department although he/she may be assigned to another department on a temporary basis as needed.
 
Housekeeping
    Clean residence and meeting rooms, assist with daily room service, clean public areas including lobbies, porches and rest rooms. Includes such duties as dusting, vacuuming, making beds, scouring toilets and sinks and assisting with laundry. Move appliances and furniture, lift and carry up to 60 lbs. and work with chemicals.
 
Food Service/Dining Room
    Work a variety of assignments including dishwashing, food preparation, stocking buffet line, table side service, cleaning dining tables and floors. Lift up to 35 lbs. to table height and stand and walk for eight hours.
 
  There is limited availability for positions in the following departments. Incumbents filling these positions will remain in the designated department for the entire summer. However, they may be assigned to another department on an as needed basis.
 
 
Conference Services
    Meet the needs of the conference groups including, setting meeting rooms, lobby areas, playing fields, porches and auditoriums. This involves audio-visual setup, delivering refreshments, table and chair arrangements and other services. Work at the Conference Services desk dispensing room keys, sorting mail, delivering messages, checking out athletic equipment and relaying information. Read and speak English, lift and carry 50 lbs. up and down stairs and in/out of vehicles. Staff assigned to conference services assist the grounds staff in addition to their other duties.
 
Grounds
   

Duties are related to the general upkeep and appearance of the grounds at Blue Ridge. Includes such tasks as weeding, mowing, clearing brush, trail maintenance, and gardening. Grounds staff is also responsible for daily disposal of trash and recycling. Seasonal duties include blowing leaves, snow removal, and salting roads and sidewalks. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, stand and walk for 8 hours.

 
Guest Services
    Duties include meeting, greeting and interacting with guests, clerical work and switchboard operation. Communicate with guests over the telephone and in person. Answer questions, assign housing, dispense room keys, file records and prepare bills. Use the computer, photocopier and fax machine and operate the switchboard. Handle emergency situations on the switchboard and radio. Make change, balance cash drawer, complete reports and maintain an accurate account of daily income. Read and speak English and work rotating shifts.
 
Aquatics
    Work at outdoor pool. Certified American Red Cross lifeguard or YMCA lifeguard certification, first aid and CPR certified. Support and enforce policies and procedures. Lift 50 lbs. from the floor, clean deck and pool, clean facilities on hands and knees using chemicals, operate pool vacuum cleaner. Good communication skills. Mature, responsible team player.
 
Program
    Duties include work as needed in all program areas: adventure education, crafts, child care and environmental education. For all program areas, we seek responsible, enthusiastic, caring role models.

Adventure programs
  Assist and lead groups in the following areas: group initiatives and games, process individual and group work, set up and belay on climbing tower, mountain biking, hiking, archery and other outdoor activities.

Crafts
  Supervise craft activities (bead work, leather embossing, tie dying, basket weaving, painting , etc.), arts, pottery (hand throwing, pottery wheels, glazing, kiln), and fiber arts (loom weaving, spinning wheels). Operate cash register, make change, balance cash drawer. Clean tables, floors and activity areas.

Child Care
  Provide nurturing educational and recreational program for 3-5 year olds. Clean tables, floors and activity areas. Must pass criminal background investigation.
